Thanks for the update Frank. In the UK we have 'listed buildings' that are graded according to historical importance and architectural splendour. Even if you buy them you can't knock them down or make alterations unless you want a massive ass-kicking from English Heritage. Doesn't the US have any sort of scheme like that? Or would it be possible for the New York authorities to start one and put the Plaza on it?

New York Cities legendary PLAZA HOTEL will close its doors.....
by franklin J inthis great, worldclass, new york city hotel will close its doors may 1 to be renovated into a pricey co op.
the great public rooms with some of the most legendary new york architecture will be turned into a shopping mall..... while the exterior of the building has recieved "landmark status" ( must remain untouched and can only be restored with landmark commission approval); the magnificent architectural interior has not recieved this status.. there is a group of us ny architects and citizens fighting to preserve the architectural interior and have a landmark status designation.
applied to the interior for future generations see just how impressive architecture and the built environment can be.. for more information go to www.savetheplaza.com.

Irish Poteen - Anyone tried it?
by New Worldly Translation ini'm quite into spirits & liqueurs at the moment and always like to try a new tipple.
this irish poteen 90% stuff has piqued my interest but i was wondering if anyone had ever tried it and what was it like?
the strongest spirit i've had before was an austrian drink called stroh which wasn't that nice really and traded taste in favour of strength imo.

Not the stuff shooters would be made of I guess
Yeah, that's what I thought, that you'd have to mix it or dilute it to such an extent you wouldn't be able to taste it.
I've never tried Bacardi 151 but I've heard it's a potent tipple to say the least.

Now worldly, that's not very nice!
Haha, no offence meant Brenda It was just the origin of the word lunatic means someone who acts strangely during the lunar phases. In folklore it was believed the moon affected people's mood. I don't think it's ever been proved or disproved.

Are you impressed by Pope John Paul II?
by GermanXJW inat pentecost, pope john paul ii could not speak when giving his traditional blessing.
many people are impressed by this pope because he does not resign.
they campare it to christ's sufferings.

He's like a Timex watch, just keeps on ticking somehow.
I thought you were gonna say cheap and plastic... but then I remembered that's Pamela Anderson. I always get those two mixed up.
Shouldn't Ringo Starr be the next pope? They've had John, Paul.. George is dead.. Ringo's next!

Their present "prophetic" vagueness will ensure membership for decades to come. Why change? They still have not named a new King of the North
I agree, they'll keep it vague so that any international happenings in the world will seem to fit and the dubs will be happy in their ignorance. It will be like the 'generation' issue that was specific before but became vague and woolly.
I'm not sure who the King of the North is but I know who Queen of the South are
